Using HR and IR Services to Make Sure Your New Hires Fit in with Your Company Culture

Hire a Team That Complements Your Company Culture with Professional HR and IR Services

There is so much more to a new hire than merely their skills and experience. As any business owner knows, it can be like striking gold when you make the right hire, and it can be devastating if you make the wrong one. A bad hire is far costlier for a company than the mountains of paperwork it creates. It can end up costing you dearly in an area where you have little room for error; your company culture.

One bad hire can end up breaking the entire mood in an office. Worse, it can negatively impact on the great members of your team and even lead to departures in the company. This is the opposite impact you want professional HR and IR services to have for your company. Instead, you want to build a strong team that can support your business goals but also complement the team culture you’ve spent so long building and fostering.

Contact us for expert HR and IR services.

How Can HR and IR Services Help You Preserve Your Company Culture?

It’s a risk every time you allow an outsider into your company. However, with professional HR and IR services, you can minimise the risk. There are ways that you can look beyond the technical expertise and experience of a candidate to determine whether they’ll be a good fit for your business, and it all starts with the HR and IR services you employ.

A great recruiter will dedicate time to get to know your company and its culture. This will act as your first line of defence, since they’ll be able to determine whether a candidate is likely to fit in with your office or not. By having your HR and IR services act as gatekeepers, you already have a layer of protection in the recruitment process. They’ll keep candidates from your door that may not fit in well from a culture point of view, even if they’re a perfect fit on paper.

Culture Fit Questions to Ask at the Interview

The interview process is a great place to mine for information and to determine the cultural fit of the candidate to their immediate team and the company at large. With some key questions you can break through the veneer and get down to who the candidate really is, what they like and what they don’t. Just because a candidate isn’t necessarily a great fit for your team doesn’t make them a bad employee, it just means that they’re not 100% suited for the role and your company.

It’s best to find this out before you step into the legal quagmire of trying to extricate an employee that doesn’t fit in your company. Your HR and IR services can provide you with more information about the questions you can ask a prospective employee, but here are a few you can ask during the interview process to get to the real candidate:

• What drew you to the company?
• What does professional success look like to you?
• Describe the work culture and environment in which you’re happiest and most productive.
• Do you prefer working alone, or as part of a team?

These are only a few of the questions you can ask to determine whether a candidate is a potential cultural fit for your team.

Work with FHH Consultants to Build a Strong Team

Throughout the years, our HR and IR services have added great value to our clients’ companies and we continue to help companies build strong teams that can get their companies to where it needs to go.

How to Maximise your Staffing Solutions Investment

You can invest in the best staffing solutions available and implement the best recruitment strategy around, but if you don’t set your team up for success, you’ll have to deal with the inevitable quick turnaround of key members of your team. As any small to medium-sized business owner knows, recruitment is one of the most expensive and most important aspects of running and building a successful business. You can’t justify spending so much money, time and resources on staffing solutions if you can’t retain your company’s talent.

There are various ways that you can minimise staff turnaround. Supporting your employees means giving the people who work for your company the correct tools they need to get the job done. When your team has everything they need to excel in their positions, job satisfaction levels inevitably soar.

Ultimately, your employee support strategy should be built around your team’s motivation to excel and perform well in the workplace. Everyone wants to feel competent and good at their work. Let’s take a look at ways you can maximise your staffing solutions and get more from your talent.

#1 Keep Your Team in the Loop

No employee works in isolation. Keeping your team motivated means showing them how their contributions add to the company’s overall success. The more info you share about the business, its activities and missions, and how your employees contribute to achieving these, the more valuable your team feels their contributions are.

#2 Challenge Your Employees

This is a particularly important point if you operate in a highly competitive industry for top talent. Valued input and meaningful activities all form key parts of achieving job satisfaction. You want your team to feel like they’re growing while also developing and learning as they continue to deliver their best to your company.

#3 Establish Effective Communication with Your Team

One of the best ways to get wires crossed and ill feelings among team members is to have poor communication. Managers and business owners need to communicate effectively and clearly. This ensures everyone in your team understands their roles and how their work contributes to the overall success of the company. It also eliminates the possibility of costly mistakes and destructive misunderstandings as far as possible.

#4 Consider Work Flexibility

Granted, not every industry lends itself to take advantage of this trend. However, if your business model allows for this, consider adding this as a perk for your team. Many modern workers appreciate the value that work flexibility and telecommuting can offer them.

By offering job flexibility to your team, it can also be seen as a sign of trust and good faith. Many employees also achieve greater productivity and efficiency with greater flexibility in their schedule.

How Top Employment Agencies in Johannesburg Use Marketing Tactics to Succeed

employment agency

Employment Agencies in Johannesburg Are Learning Lessons from Marketing

The social media revolution has changed the face of marketing forever. This spilled over to sectors that are also dependent on word-of-mouth referrals to generate new business. Social media has changed the landscape of many industries. No longer are companies and employers in control of their own brands. Instead, a brand is determined by how their customers experienced their services, and an employer by how their employees experienced the company’s culture.

Corporate messages aren’t being trusted anymore. Rather, consumers are placing their faith in the recommendations of their peers. Marketing had to adapt to this quickly, and as a result adopted inbound marketing strategies. Employment agencies in Johannesburg experienced a similar disruption to that of the marketing sector, and they’re also still in the process of adapting to the social age.

Employment agencies are dependent on quality talent applying for the positions their clients need to fill. In this regard, employment agencies in Johannesburg have learned valuable lessons in how marketing has adapted to the social revolution, and there are a few things that the employment sector can do to mirror the successful adaptation that marketing has been able to achieve.

Specifically, the employment agency sector needs to follow marketing’s lead in the following two areas:

• Inbound recruiting; and
• Outbound recruiting.

Contact us to learn more about employment agencies in Johannesburg

Inbound Recruiting and Employment Agencies in Johannesburg

An inbound recruiting strategy assists in attracting top-notch talent, particularly in Johannesburg’s ultra-competitive environment for key talent. Where outbound recruiting usually includes marketing positions to the mass job market, an inbound recruitment strategy segments the target talent segments key to the client’s industry and starts forming longer-term relationships with that talent.

Whereas outbound recruitment focuses on the immediate roles available, inbound recruitment strategies work to offer tangible value to the target talent. In essence, it goes beyond a mere job listing, and seeks to add value and be relevant to people who operate in a specific profession or who possess a specialised skill. This will lead to key talent knowing where to turn when looking for their next role or career change.

Outbound Recruiting and Employment Agencies in Johannesburg

Outbound recruitment revolves around how vacancies and roles are marketed to target audiences. This includes the traditional avenues of advertising jobs on job boards, through social media and by creating landing pages to provide more information to prospective talent about the roles available.

Advertising remains essential in telling the story of brands and companies. New trends include focusing on the experience and skills a candidate would use in the role, rather than focussing on the requirements for the job. By doing so, it’s likelier to appeal to the sense of value that a candidate can add to the role and the company.

How do Employment Agencies in Gauteng Ensure that they Comply with the Latest Legislation?

FHH Consultants

Here’s how Employment Agencies in Gauteng Ensure they Stay on the Right Side of Constantly Changing Legislation

Employment agencies, more so than many other companies, need to remain current with the latest legislation governing the labour market in South Africa. It can be a full time endeavour to do so, as the South African labour sector and landscape are constantly changing and evolving. For many companies, this is exactly why they choose to hire employment agencies in Gauteng. It’s simply easier to tap into the expertise of dedicated professionals charged with staying informed about the latest developments in the labour sector.

For many companies, the prospect of hiring an in-house professional to keep updated on all the latest employment laws is a bit of a stretch. So instead, they’ll work with employment agencies in Gauteng to source and hire new staff, while sidestepping any potential landmines that they might not even be aware is out there. But how do employment agencies in Gauteng remain current and compliant with the latest labour laws and legislation?

Contact us for expert employment solutions

Employment Agencies in Gauteng Make it their Business to be Aware of New Legislation

One benefit that employment agencies in Gauteng have in terms of staying up-to-date with the latest developments in labour legislation is that they don’t have a choice in the matter. It’s the legislation that regulates their industry, and they need to stay abreast with it. Each new law or piece of legislation that gets passed has the potential to impact their working models, and ultimately, their bottom lines. It’s because of this, among many other reasons, why these agencies are motivated to study each piece of legislation and its potential impact on their sector.

The good news for you is that this means you have an expert source to tap into, each time you want to discuss or judge the impact of new legislation on your own company, and its hiring practices.

Important Updates to South African Employment Legislation

What are some of the important updates to employment legislation in South Africa? There are quite a few, as there always are, but some of the most pressing pieces of legislation to have been recently passed will have a direct impact on companies’ hiring practices across the economy.

A case in point is parliament’s recent amendment of the Unemployment Insurance Act, seeking to increase benefit values and simplify their administration. The amendment also seeks to clarify that learners employed on a learnership agreement, as well as foreign nationals, are also eligible to claim benefits.

Another important piece of legislation is the National Minimum Wage bill. It will impact company’s’ payroll in that South Africa now has a minimum wage administered on an hourly value. Other minimums set by current wage regulating measures will move up to the National Minimum Wage level, if they are less.

It can be tough keeping up-to-date with all the latest changes to South African labour laws. However, your business doesn’t need to go at it alone. Work with FHH Consultants, and let us help you stay on top of all the changing impacting your hiring practices.

Two Major New Labour Laws Every South African Working with an Employment Agency Should Know

labour relations

Labour Laws – What South African Workers and Employers of Employment Agencies Should Know

2018 has certainly been a very productive and busy year for labour law so far. An incredible number of proposed amendments have been attributed to existing employment laws, while there is still room for possible additions of new laws and regulations. You don’t even need to search far and wide to come up with some interesting examples of what have made 2018 such a break through year for labour legislation.

Some of the biggest changes to have occurred in 2018 so far include the National Minimum Wage Bill, the Labour Laws Amendment Bill and several proposed amendments to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act. When working with an employment agency, or making allowances for the changes in your own HR department, it’s necessary to understand the constant evolution of labour legislation in South Africa. Let’s break down some of the biggest changes, and how they’ll affect South African employers and workers.

Parental Leave, Employees and Employment Agencies

The new Labour Laws Amendment Bill is legislation looking to introduce parental leave not only for the actual birth of a child, but also for new parents who make use of the services of a surrogate, or who choose to adopt a child. What’s more, Family Responsibility Leave for the birth of a child is also removed under this legislation, which normally applies to the father, or the non-child bearing parent in a same-sex relationship.

Instead, parents receive 10 consecutive days of parental leave when an employee’s child is adopted or born. Under the amendment, employees whose adoptive children are under 24 months, or those commissioning parents in a surrogacy agreement, are also entitled to 10 consecutive weeks’ leave. In the case of two adoptive parents, one parent will be entitled to 10 weeks leave, while the other only to 10 consecutive days’ leave.

The Minimum Wage and Basic Conditions of Employment Act

At present, the current focus is on the National Minimum Wage Bill and the proposed amendments to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act. Keep in mind, however, that amendments to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act chiefly focuses on the National Minimum Wage Bill. It is a bill that will have direct impact on every employer in South Africa.

Some of the biggest changes are set to include:

•Employers will be fined for not paying employees in accordance with the
National Minimum Wage Bill;
•Employees earning below the minimum earnings threshold of R205,443.30 per year will be able to refer disputes relating to non-payment of wages to the CCMA. Employees who earn above the minimum threshold will maintain their right to approach the Civil or Labour Courts to dispute non-payment of wages;
•A new section has been added providing employees who work less than four hours a day to be paid no less than four hours on that day. An exemption to this Section would be employees who work less than 24 hours a month for an employer.

Greater Power of the CCMA

An interesting addition to the Minimum Wage and Basic Conditions of Employment Act is that the CCMA has also been given wider jurisdiction with regards to labour inspectors, and the enforcement of compliance orders. This is in an effort to have disputes resolved faster than if the disputes were referred to the labour court.

At FHH Consultants and our employment agency, we make it our business to stay on top of the latest laws and regulations impacting the labour market in South Africa, so our clients don’t have to. Turn to us for expertise in every aspect of recruitment, and let us help you build the strong team your business needs to take it into the future. Our team is ready to help you attract the top talent in your industry, and we look forward to working with you.

Why It Makes Sense to Work with Expert Recruitment Agencies

recruitment process

Here’s Why Your Business Needs Professional Recruitment Agencies

Choosing the right recruitment agencies to work with is often a secondary consideration for employers. Before reaching the stage of engaging with employment agencies, some employers tend to wonder whether these agencies really add value to their recruitment process. Many businesses only realise after working with a recruitment agency the level of value these agencies offer to their companies.

It’s important today to have a sound recruitment strategy in South Africa, where skilled labour is highly competitive. If you’re still unsure whether engaging recruitment agencies to help fill key vacancies in your business is the best way forward, then read on. Here’s why your business should be working with professional recruitment agencies to target and attract the best human resource capital in South Africa.

Specialist Recruitment Agencies Are Exclusive

Rather than working with a mass of candidates, professional recruitment agencies working in your sector will select and curate a selection of skilled individuals, with the most in-demand skills. They spend time to get to grips with the abilities and skills of candidates, enabling them to recommend individuals, and not CVs.

This saves you time, resources and effort in filtering and interviewing candidates. It allows you to streamline the recruitment process, and use the shortlist of candidates the agency provides to quickly fill key positions in your organisation.

Enjoy Access to In-Depth Knowledge of the Local and National Job Market

Trends change, and markets evolve. It can be tough staying on top of the latest happenings in the job market, if you don’t have a dedicated department working on it. For many companies, this is impractical. Instead, they rely on top recruitment agencies to inform them of the trends and developments of the job market sector that pertain to them.

Recruitment Agencies Are the Hub of Top Talent in South Africa

Specialist recruitment agencies are truly the hub for top talent in many industries in South Africa. Top candidates in their fields work with agencies to help connect them with leading employers. It’s because of this, among many other reasons that you should insist on working with reputable and leading recruitment agencies.

By doing so, you can be confident that your vacancies are exposed to the best human resource talent available on the market. Work with agencies that specialise in your industry, and agencies that have a track record of success in placing candidates that you are looking to attract.

Recruitment Agencies Take Care of the Details

It’s unfortunate that qualifications fraud is on the rise in South Africa. Fibbing on CVs has always been a problem in the job market, but rising trends seem to suggest that the problem is becoming more severe, and can cost employers dearly. Reputable employment agencies run the gauntlet to ensure all prospective candidates are vetted, with background checks performed prior to being accepted and placed on a shortlist.

This means that you can be entirely confident that any candidate presented for your consideration is vetted and cleared, and that their CV has been interrogated. This saves your business the time and money to run background checks on prospective candidates, and you are sure that you’re truly getting what you pay for when hiring skilled labour.

Build Your Business by Working with the Right Employment Agents in South Africa

Here’s How You Choose the Best Employment Agents in South Africa

Whether you’re a small business owner, HR professional or hiring manager, you want to attract the best talent to your business. It’s not easy, especially in South Africa, where we are experiencing a significant brain drain of professional talent. Using external employment agents in South Africa can be an effective strategy of building up a strong team of professionals to drive business growth.

However, you need to be sure that you’re dealing with the correct employment agency for your business. There are many different agencies out there, specialising in different areas of employment services. Matching with the correct one is essential to making sure your business benefits adequately from the relationship.

But how do you make sure you’re working with the best employment agents in South Africa? Here are a few questions to ask when determining who to work with.

#1 Does the Employment Agent in South Africa Come Recommended?

As with any service provider you intend to engage for your business, you want to make sure you’re working with the best. Make sure your prospective employment agents enjoy a good reputation in the marketplace among both employers and candidates, and you’re well on your way to choosing a sound recruitment partner for your business.

#2 Does the Recruitment Agency Offer a Competitive Service?

In a crowded marketplace, service providers need to be competitive in order to set themselves apart. Different recruitment agencies have different fee structures, but you don’t need to break the bank to enjoy the benefit of a professional recruitment agent’s service.

#3 Does the Recruitment Agency Have Experience Recruiting within Your Sector or Area of Expertise?

It’s ideal to work with recruitment agents that have experience in placing candidates similar to the ones you require. In such a competitive candidate marketplace as South Africa, you need a specialist with industry knowledge and insights. This will be key in being able to attract the best talent in the industry.

It also makes them a greatly effective recruitment partner to your business. They will have a greater network of quality and vetted candidates to tap into to get your positioned filled quickly.

#4 What is Their Sourcing Process?

Top recruitment agencies have a quality sourcing process. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be transparent about it. Ask the employment agent how they will go about finding your business top talent, and how they screen and interview candidates. You want to be confident that you receive a thoroughly vetted shortlist of candidates, and that your business is being exposed to the best talent out there.

Use Staffing Solutions to Help You Hire the Right Person, the First Time

talent management

Benefit from Using Staffing Solutions to Help You Build a Strong Team

Hiring the correct employee can make or break any business. Staff recruitment is about managing stress, as there will be constant scrutiny on your selection. The reality is that you won’t be able to please everyone in your organisation, and you can only place trust in your staffing solutions partner and other stakeholders to help you assemble the best team possible.

However, there are other ways at your disposal to hire the best employee for the role, every time. While professional staffing solutions can provide you with a short list of great candidates, the hiring decision will still be yours. And ultimately, enough can’t be said about the importance of making sure you bring the right person into your organisation. While hiring the right employee might be challenging, hiring the wrong one is expensive.

The right employee will enhance your work culture, and pay you back a dozen times over in great employee morale, accomplishing challenging tasks and in positive, forward thinking planning. So let’s take a look at some of the ways you can boost your chances of hiring the best employee, every time.

Contact FHH Consultants for expert staffing solutions

Use Staffing Solutions to Help You Attract Candidates Committed to Their Careers

Candidates committed to their careers are the people you want in your organisation. The last thing you want is to hire a person who constantly switches jobs or careers, just to vie for a higher salary or better package. If a candidate shows a consistent lack of loyalty to any company, it can be problematic down the line if you hire such a candidate.

Professional staffing solutions understand this, and will advise you accordingly. If you’re wondering how to check this aspect of your candidate’s application, check out their previous job duration, and if they’ve switched jobs constantly. Keep in mind that young professionals no longer stick with a single employer for 30 years, like in the past, and good exposure and experience are preferred with today’s candidates. But it should be very easy to spot sporadic employment histories.

Test Candidates for Good Analytical and Learning Skills

Few job roles today are stationary, and they require candidates to be flexible and adaptable to change. Hiring candidates with high aptitude of analytical and learning skills will help them adapt to change easier. Use different methodologies to assess these skills in candidates.

Try and avoid merely evaluating candidates on their strength of their CVs. Although testing candidates can be tricky and time consuming, it’s worth it, because the results of these tests can’t be dressed up with a well-put together CV and cover letter.

Check Compatibility of Candidates

Finding an employee that fits in with your company’s culture is crucial on my fronts. It pays to verify whether your prospective candidate has the social skills required to get along with others, especially their future co-workers and immediate managers. Here is where you can ask how the candidate is performing in their current role, and how they’re managing business and client relationships.

Let Professional Staffing Solutions at FHH Consultants Help You Attract a Winning Team

Contact one of the best recruitment agencies Johannesburg has available

#1 What Happens if the New Employee Leaves?

There are few things as disheartening for a company than having invested money, time and resources in attracting and training a new employee, only to see the employee leave after you’ve paid a fee to a recruitment agency. Many recruitment agencies tend to offer some form of rebate, should a candidate leave the firm within a specific time period.

This usually varies, but is in line with a probationary period. Every agency is different, and a rebate is usually based on a sliding scale of the period of time the candidate remained employed. Be sure to discuss this with a prospective agency, so that you know what your rights are in this case. Our team at FHH Consultants know the early warning signs to look out for, and make sure we place candidates suited to the roles and our clients’ company culture, which underscores our high candidate-placement retention rate.

#2 What Is Their CV Selection Process?

The entire point of outsourcing your recruitment needs is to save you money, time and resources. This means not being inundated with applications, left and right, that you have to spend hours ploughing through to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Enquire from the agency how they approach the selection process, and how they approach applications. Do they speak to each applicant? How do they curate the information they receive from prospective candidates? Also determine how many CVs you will receive in the short list of candidates they provide you with.

Our team works closely with yours to learn your precise needs. We’ll provide you with a shortlist of suitable candidates’ CVs for consideration, and keep it highly specialised to minimise any back-and-forth.

#3 How Do They Approach Candidate Referencing?

Reference checks are essential when vetting any prospective candidate. These checks need to be carried out prior to hiring new employees, but can be quite resource intensive and time consuming. Check how a prospective agency will handle this important part of the recruitment process.

Speaking to former employers, confirming identity and doing academic qualification verification all play an important role in making sure you get the best value for your human resource investment. It shouldn’t be approached as an after thought.

We take a hard line on vetting any prospective candidates prior to placement with our clients. This includes thorough background and employment history checks, along with qualifications verification. Rest assured you’re getting what you’re paying for.

#4 Have They Placed Candidates in Similar Roles?

Ideally, you’ll want to work with a recruitment agency that has a lot of experience in dealing within your industry. This doesn’t mean that the agency necessarily needs to exclusively specialise in only one sector in order to confidently place the correct candidate in a role, but it helps if they’ve had some success in your specific industry.

So check whether the agency has been able to place a candidate in a similar role before, and whether they’ve enjoyed long term success in this regard. It will help you reach a fully informed decision.
